Michael Epton is a multi-disciplinary mixed media artist based in London's East End, working from his studio in Bow. With over 30 years of continuous practice, his work spans painting, sculpture, digital art, and spray art, though drawing remains his first love.
A Transformative Journey
Two years ago, Michael's life changed forever when encephalitis (a rare neurological condition) led to seizures and a coma. Recovery meant relearning everything: how to walk, talk, think, and remember. Each day was like "plugging something back into my brain like connections on a circuit board"
This experience became a catalyst for profound transformation. Where depression had shadowed previous years, Michael discovered genuine happiness and faith. The cognitive and physical challenges remain, but so does the gift of renewal.
Evolution of Style
The impact on his art was equally profound. Michael finally found the patience to master oil painting. His earlier work, characterized by frenetic energy, gave way to contemplative exploration of light and values. This shift represents not just technical growth, but a deeper understanding of presence and process.

Urban Emotions on Canvas
Michael's cityscapes translate the complex emotional landscape of city living: buzz, awe, silence, joy, loneliness, anxiety, claustrophobia. His visual diary, carried everywhere, captures these moments through pencil, ink, and digital media. Each piece invites you to peer into the mixed emotions that define urban experience.
For two decades, Michael also worked in art departments for light entertainment broadcasting, bringing creativity to both studio and screen. He has exhibited throughout London in solo and group shows and is a member of the ACME Studios community.
